Ideally you want someone
who comes recommended. Ask family, friends and neighbours if they know of
anyone who is reliable and they wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
-
Get in touch with Trade
organisations such as Artex and ask them if they have a list of approved
texturers within the area you live. If not then look in your local
newspaper or Yellow Pages. If only a mobile phone number is listed then
don't bother to ring, move onto the next one.
-
Try and get at least 3
quotes so that you can compare prices and get it in writing.
-
Ask the texturer for
references and addresses to work that he has recently carried out so that
you can view his work. A decent tradesman will not have a problem with
that.
-
Check to see that they are
insured for damage to your property or belongings and ask to see the
certificate. A professional will be insured.
-
Discuss your requirements
fully so both you and the texturer know what is to be done and how long
the job will take.
-
Ask him what patterns he
can do. A professional will be able to show you a whole range of textures
from the simpler brush patterns to the more elaborate comb finishes.
-
Ask when he will be able to
start the job. You may have to wait a few week's, which could be a good
thing as you know he is busy. If he says tomorrow then ask yourself why!
-
Other things to look out
for when the texturer comes round to give you a quote are was he punctual.
Was he polite. Did he measure up the area to be textured then worked out
the price or just took the price off the top of his head. Did he explain
fully how he would carry out the job. In other words did he give you a
feel of professionalism. No, then look elsewhere.
-
Ask if the work is
guaranteed.
-
There should be no need to
hand over any money prior to the work being carried out. If the texturer
does require a deposit then get a receipt. Never hand over all the money
before hand.
