Re-Texturing
Scrape off any
protruding drops or peaks from the texture.
It is best to use a heavy duty
scraper where you can change the blades, but be
careful as they are very sharp.
Give the whole area a coating of
sealer and allow it to dry thoroughly.
Using a thick mix of texture
material and a caulking tool fill in the whole area and allow to dry.
Once dry the caulked area will be
very porous so the surface will need to be sealed.
Once the sealer is dry then the
surface is ready to be re-patterned to your choice. |
Removing Texture To Leave A
Flat Surface
The first way is to follow the procedure for re-texturing and leave out the
re-patterning part. But you will need to caulk over the surface for a second
time once the first caulk has dried and been sealed. The texture material
can be a bit more runnier than the original thick mix. This should then give
you a decent flat finish for either painting or papering.
If you are
removing texture from a wall that is solid you can normally remove all the
texture without having to fill in. Scrape the whole area using a heavy duty
scraper to score through the paint. Sponge warm water over the area so it
soaks into the texture.
Then continue scraping until you
reach the original plastered surface. It should normally come off quite
easily. Any digs or marks caused by the scraper in the wall can be filled in
with the texture material.

Re-Texture Straight Over
Pattern
In some cases you can
pattern straight over an existing pattern without filling in. The the
original pattern will need to have a scraper run over it to remove any
peaks. You have to be sure that when you re-pattern the original pattern
underneath will not show through. I have seen
many cases where a scroll pattern has been put straight over stipple and
the stipple remains clearly visible!
