From
time to time things can go wrong with your wall or
ceiling texturing whether it's during preparation or after your
textured ceiling or wall has dried. Here are a few of the most common
problems that can occur during the process and most
of them can be avoided during the preparation process.

Joint Tape Lifting or Bubbling in Areas
There are a number of reasons
why this can happen. The area along the crack or joint has not been sealed
or allowed to dry properly meaning the initial caulk has started to firm
too quickly in areas before the tape was bedded in.
There is air trapped underneath the tape. Make sure when you are bedding
the tape in that there is enough texture material covering the joint for
the tape to sit on and apply enough pressure when drawing the caulking
tool along the tape to force out the air.
It is very important that you allow a joint tape to dry thoroughly prior
to texturing. If you have a problem like above it is easy to cut out and
replace the bubbling tape.
Visible Line or Ridge Where Joint Has Been Taped
This is entirely due to poor
taping and caulking. Once the tape has been embedded in during the first
caulk it should be allowed to dry thoroughly. It is ideal that you then
second caulk. This is where you apply another coat of texture material but
taking the band wider along the taped area and feathering out along the
edges. You are then making the slightly raised area where the tape is more
gradual rather than immediate so disguising it better.
If you are texturing a ceiling that has bumps or ridges then you can
texture with a heavier pattern such as broken leather or Swirl. Don't lace
it as this will tend to highlight the area.
The
Texture Material Is Firming Before You Pattern It
The surface you are texturing is not sealed properly and it is still
porous in places. Make sure any sealer or primer you use dries thoroughly.
Turn off the heating and keep the windows and doors shut in the room to
stop any breezes.
Ensure the consistency of the mix of the material is right for the
pattern.
Don't try and pattern too much of an area at one time. Remember the edge
of the band of material applied to the surface has to still be workable
when you get back to it.
New
Textured Ceiling Or Wall Has Cracked
A crack in the original surface has not been filled or taped during
preparation.
The material has dried too quickly. Don't force the material to dry by
putting on the heating. Open windows and doors so it can dry gradually.
The consistency of the material is too thick.
The surface has not been sealed properly. Residual glue from wallpapers
that has not been removed.
Air Bubbles
This is caused by air escaping as the moisture from the texture is
absorbed into the surface. Make sure the surface has been sealed properly
and allowed to dry thoroughly.

Lumpy
Texture
This is caused by poor mixing of the texture material. Always follow the
manufacturers instructions for mixing taking into account water
temperature. |
